A developer’s view of your website

Most website audits are automated reports: pages of warnings with no sense of which ones matter. Mine is different. I review your site the way I would if I were taking it over – the theme, the plugins, the hosting, the content structure and how it actually performs for visitors.

The result is a short list of the changes that will make the biggest difference, in the order you should make them. It’s useful before a redesign, after a drop in traffic, or when your site just feels slower and harder to manage than it should.

Why work with me

Reviewed by hand

Testing tools help, but every finding is checked and explained by an experienced WordPress developer.

Prioritised, not padded

Each issue rated by severity and effort, so you know where to start.

Plain English

Written for business owners and marketing teams as well as developers.

Fixes if you want them

Use the report yourself, give it to your developer, or ask me to make the changes.

What the website audit covers

Performance

Core Web Vitals, page weight, images, caching and hosting, tested on mobile as well as desktop.

Technical SEO

Indexing, page titles, headings, internal links, redirects, sitemaps and structured data, checked against Google Search Console.

Accessibility

A review against WCAG 2.2 AA covering contrast, keyboard use, screen reader basics, forms and alt text.

Security and updates

WordPress core, theme and plugin versions, user accounts, backups and common vulnerabilities.

Code and plugins

Theme quality, plugin bloat, page builder overhead and anything that makes the site hard to maintain.

UX and conversions

Navigation, page structure, calls to action and forms, looked at from your visitors’ point of view.

Privacy and compliance

Cookie consent, privacy policy and analytics set-up in line with UK GDPR.

AI search readiness

How clearly your content and structured data answer the questions people ask Google and AI assistants.

How the audit works

  1. Brief

A short call about your goals, your concerns and what’s changed recently, plus access to analytics and Search Console.

  2. Review

I work through the site by hand, backed up by testing tools, and record every issue with the page it appears on.

  3. Report

A plain-English report with each issue rated by severity and effort, and a prioritised action plan.

  4. Walkthrough

A call to go through the findings, answer questions and agree what to tackle first.

  5. Fix

Fix things yourself with the report, hand it to your own developer, or have me make the changes.

What clients say about working with me

Rated 5.0 out of 5 on Google (opens in a new tab)

I cannot recommend Leon highly enough. He migrated my website to a new, properly optimised host, fixed numerous underlying technical issues, set up security, added GDPR-compliant legal pages and integrated Google Analytics and Search Console.

I will absolutely be using Leon again for future projects and would recommend him without hesitation to any small business owner looking for a trustworthy, skilled and fairly priced web developer.

Marta Zbien — Mustus Consulting

Happy is an understatement. I came to Leon with an issue on my website, he spent time exploring the problem and then solved it in minutes. He charged me an incredibly fair price. Strongly recommended.

Bruce Daisley

Leon understands essentials like page speeds, usability, and mobile optimisation, then combines these with a keen eye for sharp, crisp design. The results are always spectacular, plus delivered on time and on budget!

Gavin Brightman — Sound Zero

Leon is always very kind and patient and fixes website problems very quickly. He has excellent design skills and I cannot recommend his Built by Leon service more highly.

Hamish Tabor — Isola Rossa Villas

Website audit pricing

Audits are a fixed price based on the size of your site, agreed before I start. Any fixes are quoted separately, so there’s no obligation to use me for them. If you go on to a new build with me, the discovery fee comes off the project price.

Website audit FAQs

What is a WordPress website audit?

It’s a structured review of how your WordPress site performs, how it’s built and how well it serves visitors and search engines. You get a list of problems, why they matter and what to do about each one, in order of priority.

How much does a WordPress website audit cost?

A focused audit of one area, such as speed or accessibility, starts from £500. A full WordPress website audit starts from £1,000, and project discovery before a new website starts from £1,500. The exact price depends on the size of the site and is fixed before I start.

What is project discovery?

A paid first stage before a new website or redesign. I audit your current site, look at your goals, audience and competitors, and plan the sitemap and content structure. You get a fixed quote for the build, and if you go ahead with me the discovery fee comes off the project price.

What do I get at the end?

A written report with every issue rated by severity and effort, a prioritised action plan, and a call to talk it through. It’s written in plain English, so it’s useful whether or not you’re technical.

How is this different from a free online SEO checker?

Automated tools flag hundreds of issues without telling you which ones matter. I review your site by hand as a developer, explain the cause of each problem and tell you what to fix first for the biggest impact.

Can you fix the issues you find?

Yes. Once you have the report I can quote for the fixes, or you can hand it to your own developer. There’s no obligation either way.

Does the audit include accessibility?

Yes. I check your site against WCAG 2.2 AA, covering the issues that most often stop people using a site, such as poor contrast, missing labels and keyboard traps.

Do you audit sites that aren’t built with WordPress?

My audits are designed for WordPress, where I can look properly at the theme, plugins and hosting. Performance, SEO and accessibility checks apply to any site, so get in touch if you’re on another platform.

Should I get an audit before a redesign?

Often, yes. An audit shows what’s worth keeping and what needs to change, so a redesign or migration fixes the real problems instead of moving them to a new site.
